Masjid al-Qiblatayn also known as Labo-qibla mosque is a mosque in Zeila, situated in the northwestern Awdal region of Somalia.The construction of this Mosque is tied to the History of Islam in Somalia. In Zeila, A Dir city, the mosque Masjid al-Qiblatayn is known as the site of where early companions of the Prophet, and the local Somalis, established a mosque shortly after the first Migration to Abyssinia. By the 7th century, a large-scale conversion to Islam was taking place in Somalia, first spread by the Dir People, from their construction of this mosque, to the rest of the nation afterwards. The mosque, which translates to "Mosque of the two Qiblahs", dates its construction to the 7th century CE, shortly after the Hijrah of Muslims to what was then Abyssinia. Al-Shabab gunmen attack Mogadishu hotel

Al-Shabab  gunmen have attacked a hotel near the presidential palace in  Somalia 's capital, according to police and the armed group. Fighting was still continuing following Tuesday's attack on SYL hotel in Mogadishu.  "We thought they were police but they started hurling grenades and firing us when they neared and so we exchanged fire at the gate of the hotel," a police officer who gave his name as Ahmed told Reuters news agency. Zakia Hussen, Somalia's deputy police commissioner, said security forces killed two of the attackers outside the hotel and were fighting two others on the premises. "So far, security forces have rescued 82 people, both civilians and officials," Zakia said on her Twitter account. Abdi-Aziz Abu Mus'ab, al-Shabab's military spokesman, confirmed the group was behind the attack and said its fighters were inside the hotel compound, which is popular with government officials and politicians. Somalia struggles after worst flooding in recent history

Somalia is experiencing a new wave of flash floods, acording to the recent reports, heavy rains is already wreaking havoc in some parts of the country while other riverine communities are left in fear as the Juba and Shabelle river levels continue to rise. On April 28th, heavy rains in Gardo town and surrounding areas caused flash floods killing at least 6 people, including 3 children and 31 people are still missing. The floods have also destroyed assets, food stores, markets, telecommunications and other public services. The Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Agency ( HADMA) in Puntland confirms that at least 11,000 households ( about 66,000 people) have been affected and need urgent humanitarian assistance. Some of the households are seeking shelter in nearby schools as rescue operations continue.
