Somali PM Meets With EU's Ambassador in Mogadishu

 




Somali PM Mohamed Hussein Roble says he had held productive talks with EU ambassador to the country, Nicolas Berlanga, at his office in Mogadishu on Monday.

"We discussed the EU's development cooperation with Somalia and progress on Security, Elections, and Election security. The EU is a significant contributor and partner in our nation," Robel tweeted.

EU provides significant support to the Somali government and helps in army rebuilding and empowerment of the institutions as well as the economic reforms.

Al-Shabab gunmen attack Mogadishu hotel

Al-Shabab  gunmen have attacked a hotel near the presidential palace in  Somalia 's capital, according to police and the armed group. Fighting was still continuing following Tuesday's attack on SYL hotel in Mogadishu.  "We thought they were police but they started hurling grenades and firing us when they neared and so we exchanged fire at the gate of the hotel," a police officer who gave his name as Ahmed told Reuters news agency. Zakia Hussen, Somalia's deputy police commissioner, said security forces killed two of the attackers outside the hotel and were fighting two others on the premises. "So far, security forces have rescued 82 people, both civilians and officials," Zakia said on her Twitter account. Somalis protest against Al-Shabaab terror group as anger prompts rare apology for bombing that killed 90

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Mogadishu on Thursday, in a rare show of defiance against al-Shabaab, the Somali jihadist group who have terrorised the country for nearly a decade.   The protests follow the carnage wrought on the Somali capital on the 28th of December when a car bomb exploded at a busy traffic intersection killing around 90 people and injuring dozens of others.
