Somaliland Host the first Horse Racing in Horn of Africa

Horndiplomat-Hargeisa hosted the first Horse Racing in the entire Horn of Africa. The event was graced by the minister for youth and sports Boos Mire Mohamed and other senior government officials.

The first Horse Racing competition held in Hargeisa yesterday with the participation of contestants from Marodi Jeh, Awdal, Sahil, Togder, Sanaag and Sool regions.

The contestant from Marodi Jeh region won the race.

Top al-Shabaab fighter defects in Somalia

A senior al-Shabaab fighter who traveled from London to join the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab militant group in the Horn of Africa has defected to the Somali government. In an interview with the Voice of America (VOA) published Tuesday, Zubair al-Muhajir, who was born in Ivory Coast and joined al-Shabaab in 2006, said he fell out with the group in 2013 when he was arrested and imprisoned for three years by its elite Al-Amniyat unit, which specializes in carrying out assassinations, choreographing and staging suicide attacks and gathering intelligence. “I defected because al-Shabaab, they are lying to the Muslims and to the world. Heavy fighting erupts in Somali town near Kenyan border

  Heavy fighting broke out overnight in a Somali town near the Kenyan border between Somali forces and those from the state of Jubbaland, as Somalia’s election troubles spill over into violence. Somalia’s information ministry in a statement early Monday accused Kenya-funded rebels of crossing into the town of Bulo Hawo and attacking Somali forces. But the Jubbaland vice president, Mohamud Sayid Adan, told reporters that Jubbaland forces stationed outside the town were attacked by what he called forces recently deployed to the region by the government in the capital, Mogadishu. Both sides claimed victory. The information ministry asserted that Somali forces were in control of the town and that nearly 100 of the suspected rebels had surrendered to Somali forces.
